The Czech National Bank announced that the new Bank Act is likely to be issued at the end of this year or in the first quarter of 1997 at the earliest, since there is no reason to do so at present. The proposed Act would introduce tighter conditions for granting of banking licences in order to protect savings. It would also introduce conditions for Czech banks being licensed to provide their services in the EU.
