Smart & Biggar is pleased to welcome five new associates to our Toronto office. Michael Kovacevic, Ashley Lam, Coralee Ridder, Brayden Secord and Rebecca Tyli rejoin the firm following their terms as articling students. They will work alongside Canada’s IP leaders to support clients in safeguarding their innovations and addressing key IP challenges.

Michael Kovacevic – Associate, Life Sciences, Toronto

Michael’s practice focuses on protecting innovation in the life sciences. His background in biochemistry provides him with the scientific insight to engage with complex technologies and understand the relationship between research, commercialization and intellectual property protection.

Ashley Lam – Associate, Patents: EICT, Toronto

Ashley’s practice focuses on patent drafting and prosecution across the computer and mechanical fields. Her experience spans working with a wide range of technologies, including industrial processes, software, medical devices and robotic systems.

Coralee Ridder – Associate, Life Sciences, Toronto

With six years of industry experience as a chemist, Coralee brings scientific insights, intellectual curiosity and a practical understanding of the research and development process to her intellectual property practice. She is committed to delivering consistent, accurate and timely work and to communicating openly and directly with clients throughout the process.

Brayden Secord – Associate, Patents: EICT, Toronto

Brayden’s practice focuses on patent drafting and prosecution, particularly for innovations in software, artificial intelligence, electrical systems and related technologies. When working with clients, he seeks to understand both the technology underlying an invention and the broader business objectives it supports.

Rebecca Tyli – Associate, Litigation, Toronto

Rebecca’s practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, drawing on her background in biomedical sciences and extensive advocacy experience. Her scientific training enables her to engage with technically complex subject matter and understand the innovations at the centre of intellectual property disputes.

We wish them all the best in their careers at Smart & Biggar.
