Partner Emmanuel Gaillard (Paris-International Arbitration) authored an article titled "L'avenir des chambres commerciales internationales de Paris" that was published by Revue Lamy Droit des Affaires (RLDA) by Lamy on October 2019 (article in French).

Summary: Written to conclude the symposium held by the Paris Court of Appeal on June 14, 2019 on "The attractiveness of Paris as a jurisdiction: workings and trajectory of the international commercial chambers," this article discusses the recent innovations in the international commercial chambers of the Paris courts. It first provides an overview of the features of this institution and the procedural tools now available to parties litigating therein, the success of which can be assessed in the future by observing their influence on the other chambers of the Paris courts. A swift formalization of the international chambers and their procedural innovations, which were developed without changes to the legislation governing the Paris courts and thus require the parties' consent, would also be a welcome development.

The article then examines France's offering of these chambers in today's context of fierce international competition between jurisdictions, which is reshuffling the cards in the global game of influence between the civil and common law traditions. The article closes by considering whether France's effort to market its court systems is desirable, concluding that Paris and its courts can have, and should strive to play, an important role for parties coming from the many civil law jurisdictions across the globe.
