CNC Opens Formal Proceedings against the Fábrica Nacional De La Moneda Y Timbre for Alleged Anti-Competitive Practices Connected with the Validation Services for its Electronic Certificates

On 13 October 2010 the Investigations Division of the Comisión Nacional de la Competencia (the 'CNC') decided to open formal proceedings against the Spanish National Coin and Stamp Factory, the Fábrica Nacional de la Moneda y Timbre (the 'FMNT'), for suspected restrictive practices.

On 13 October 2010 the Investigations Division of the Comisión Nacional de la Competencia (the 'CNC') decided to open formal proceedings against the Spanish National Coin and Stamp Factory, the Fábrica Nacional de la Moneda y Timbre (the 'FMNT'), for suspected restrictive practices.

The opening of these formal proceedings is the result of a complaint submitted by Certificate, Verification & Revocation SL. The CNC now aims to determine whether the FNMT has abused a dominant position while marketing the validation services for its electronic certificates.

In its statement, the CNC said that the opening of the proceedings did not pre-judge the final outcome of the investigations. The CNC now has up to a maximum period of 18 months to investigate the case and issue a decision
