Oy Tampella Ab, a Finnish metals firm, acquired Voest-Alpine Bergtechnik from the Austrian firm Osterreichische Industriholding AG for an undisclosed sum. Voest-Alpine Bergtechnik manufactures machines for excavation of coal, equipment for tunnelling and for materials handling. Last year it had a turnover of 184 million U.S. dollars.
The acquired firm will be united into Tampella's subisidiary Tamrock, and this will overnight turn Tamrock into one of the largest firms in the world in its sector, manufacturing of mining equipment. The acquisition will especially strengthen Tampella in the sector of manufacturing machines for handling of hard and soft stone. Tampella's turnover will rise to slightly more than 900 million U.S. dollars.
