On March 11, the Dutch government enacted an amended version of the cookie legislation (source document in Dutch). The amendments introduce a number of exceptions to the requirement to obtain the user's consent prior to using cookies, including an exception if the cookie is used to obtain information about the quality of the service provided or if the cookie has no impact on the privacy of the user involved. Also, under the amendments, the government cannot require the user to accept cookies before giving access to the site. However, cookies used to load user profiles or track users on the internet still require consent.
