As South Africa continues to confront the consequences of fraud and corruption, strengthening accountability and the institutions and businesses on which our economy depends remains critical.
The nature of financial crime is also changing. Organisations face increasingly sophisticated forms of fraud and misconduct, while whistleblowers continue to play an important role in bringing wrongdoing to light. Creating environments in which concerns can be raised safely, investigated thoroughly and addressed appropriately is therefore an important part of building more resilient and accountable organisations.
Against this backdrop, Steven Powell, Head of Forensics, has received the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners’ 2026 Advocacy (South Africa) of the Year Award.
The award recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to strengthening the anti-fraud profession, promoting ethical conduct and advancing fraud prevention and anti-corruption efforts.
“Steven has spent many years working with clients to investigate and respond to complex allegations of fraud, corruption and other forms of misconduct, while contributing more broadly to the development of the anti-fraud profession. His work reflects the important role forensic professionals play not only when wrongdoing occurs, but in helping organisations strengthen their ability to identify risks, respond decisively and foster cultures of accountability,” said, ENS CE, Mzi Mgudlwa
This recognition also reflects a collective effort. Meaningful progress in combating fraud and corruption depends on businesses, institutions, regulators, law enforcement, whistleblowers and professional advisers each playing their part and on organisations being prepared to act when concerns are raised.
