Welcome to the fourth annual issue of Appleby's round-up of significant decisions of the courts over the course of the preceding calendar year. It is compiled by members of our Dispute Resolution Group in Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, the Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey and Mauritius.

As in previous years, we have arranged our commentary by topic, rather than simply by offshore jurisdiction, identifying themes across the jurisdictions and comparing how the different courts approach them. We have selected decisions that we think will be of wide interest, whether because they change or clarify the law or, for example, because they deal with a point that may arise in other jurisdictions. Even on that selective basis we cover some 80 decisions, ranging from first-instance interlocutory decisions, all the way through to decisions of the Privy Council.
